by Clark Shah-Nelson (admin) - Wednesday, 21 July 2010, 10:26 AM

Dear Past 2-3-98 Attendees,

In case you haven't heard:

2-3-98, Not Just a Historical ‘Event’

SUNY Delhi, in the Catskill mountains of New York, will be hosting the third annual 2-3-98 Conference and MoodleMoot: An Open Discussion on Technology in Higher Education August 11-13, 2010. This year's theme, "Technology During an Economic Crisis, The Benefits of Open Sourcing," looks at how higher ed institutions saved money while extending services by implementing open source software solutions and other open initiatives. This year's conference will include a dedicated track for senior-level campus administrators assessing the open source value proposition. Join us this year in the Catskills or from any corner in the world. The conference will also be available to remote participants via web conferencing.

Conference Highlights:

"National, bring your boss to work day"
The one day "Executive Summary" is designed for senior level campus administrators who have limited time, but are interested in discovering more about various open initiatives and how they can reduce costs while extending opportunities.

An Open Discussion on Technology in Education
Due to the current financial crisis, campuses are facing significant challenges in funding current programs and services. Open-source software provides institutions with real savings, while delivering continuity in service, allowing campuses to not only fulfill but expand academic initiatives. This year's 2-3-98 Conference will focus on how education has adopted open source software to increase services while lowering their IT costs.

MoodleMoot
The adoption of Moodle across the U.S. has been nothing short of remarkable. Day Three of the 2-3-98 Conference, a MoodelMoot, will focus on Learning Management Systems and innovative ways faculty are using the system in teaching and learning as well as how open source models provide lower risk for institutions.

Previous speakers have included, Bob Sutor, Vice President, Open Source and Linux, IBM Software Group, IBM Corporation; Kathy Fernandes, Director, Academic Technologies, California State University; Jonathan Markow, Executive Director Jasig, and Keith Bailey, Director of Penn State University's e-Learning Institute. Topics have spanned across academic and administrative technologies, including Bedework Calendar, Drupal, ESUP HelpDesk, Linux Desktop, Mahara, Moodle, Sakai and uPortal. Over 150 participants from over 80 institutions participated.

Reserve Your ‘Seat’:
You can register for one, two or three days and plan to join us in person or remotely. Only $23 or $98!

2-3-98 Videos Online
by Clark Shah-Nelson (admin) - Wednesday, 19 August 2009, 11:56 AM

Dear 2-3-98 Attendees and Enthusiasts,

In addition to broadcasting and capturing nearly all the sessions live via DimDim, we also video recorded most of the sessions, and have added links to the videos of the presenters onto the 2-3-98 Schedule page (https://confluence.delhi.edu/x/dYMd) as well as embedded the videos into the corresponding course spaces in the 2-3-98 Moodle server (http://delhitools.net/2-3-98)

You may find it beneficial to actually play the DimDim version for the presentation and the other video to see who was speaking - while muting one of the audio sources. smile

If anyone did end up capturing something from the Keynote, that is the one session for which we have no recording whatsoever.

Feel free to continue to use the 2-3-98 Moodle server for discussion and communication, and we hope you enjoy the recorded resources.

Best,

Clark Shah-Nelson
